The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Counterterrorism and the
U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice (NIJ) have partnered
with the Kenya Wildlife Service to provide low cost aircraft to assist in the
protection of Kenya wildlife. The purpose of this initiative is to deliver new
tools to the Kenya Wildlife Service to strengthen their counter-poaching
mission. This will allow the Bureau of Counterterrorism an opportunity to trial
low-cost aircraft technologies and surveillance methods for law enforcement,
border security and counterterrorism efforts around the world. NIJ will take
the lessons learned in Kenya to apply to state, local and tribal law
enforcement in the United States. The project is funded through the U.S.
